            With the 2026 California Legislative Session coming to an end, I wanted to provide some data on interesting aspects of the Legislature:

2026 Senate Data

How many Senate Standing Committees are there? 25

What is the average size of a Senate Standing Committee? 9

Which Standing Committee has the most members? Budget with 18

Which Standing Committee has the fewest members? There are seven committees with 5 members

Which Senators have the most committee assignments?

Senators Ochoa-Bogh and Seyarto with 8 each

Senators Caballero, Gonzalez, Grayson, Laird, Menjivar, Reyes, and Richardson have 7 each

What is the average number of committee assignments per Senator? 5

During the 2025-26 Session, there were:

Total number of SBs: 1,447

Total number of SCAs: 5

Total number of SJRs: 19

Total number of SCRs: 197

Total number of SRs: 140

Total number of GRPs: 1

21 Senators introduced the maximum 35 bills during the 2-year Session, plus 2 Senators introduced 36 bills each

How many tribal-state Gaming Compacts were considered by the Senate?

14 were approved in 2026

How many Standing Committees authored bills? 12

How many total committee bills were introduced? 157

How many Governor’s appointments were considered by the Senate? 366

CA Regulatory Explainer: Overview of the California Rulemaking Process  By Chris Micheli   California has over 200 State agencies, departments, boards, and commissions that make public policy through their authority to adopt regulations. A list of State agencies that have adopted regulations can be found on the website of California’s Office of Administrative Law (OAL), which is found at www.oal.ca.gov   OAL’s website also provides direct access to the California Code of Regulations (CCR), which is organized under various subject matter titles, of which there are 28 titles.
